I grew up in Portland, OR. My family is small, but we are close. All of them will tell you I started talking about being an attorney around fifth or sixth grade. After graduating in the Portland area, I began my undergraduate degree in Dallas, TX. I missed the Northwest too much, transferred to University of Washington, and earned an honors undergraduate degree in psychology. In between University of Washington and Seattle University School of Law, I assisted three attorneys at a downtown law firm to see if the realities of practicing law lived up to my ideas. That solidified it for me, and I enrolled in Seattle University School of Law, graduating cum laude. Family Law was my goal directly out of law school, and I was fortunate to work with a veteran in this field for my first associate position.
I have been happily calling Seattle my home since 1995. I met my husband, Ken, soon afterward, and neither of us can imagine living elsewhere. We are happily married, rhyming, fellow UW alums. When we are home, we are tolerated by our 16 year old cat, Cecelia Rowan Hallack. Husky football has our attention each fall, and kayaking, hiking, and hosting outdoor dinners fills up the months with better weather. I love to cook, try new recipes, and am likely to have too many wine club memberships at any given time. I am picky about grammar and punctuation, and I believe in using coasters under all drinks. I’m obsessed with travel, and my favorite vacation destination is the next one on the calendar. I can’t get enough vacation planning, and I have a long wish-list of upcoming travel destinations. I love to get some sun during the NW winters, but anywhere my husband and I can explore different cultures and cuisines is a good venue.
I have a close-knit family that is everything to me. Because of this, practicing family law and helping people towards solutions in their households gives me so much satisfaction. I am inspired, too, by the creativity, grace, and humor of my fellow family law practitioners.
That is a lot about me, but the focus will be on you. I want to hear about the dynamics of your family – what was good and what needs to change. Every family law matter is different, and you are the best source for the information about your family and its needs through any type of legal transition. There are a lot of unknowns in family law that can be frightening, so my goal is to guide you through the process in a way that makes you feel comfortable and in control.
